Art description:
Plastic bottles and paper plates painted in the design of famous swedish glass-designer ulrica hydman-vallien. My appropriation was made from memory wich allowed me to make my own additions to and variations of her design. For example i painted tears so that the cats cry.
Incident:
The work recieved a lot of attention in swedish media. Ulrica hydman-vallien's characteristic design is greatly appreciated by
many but and a commercial success, but at the same time others regard her design to be too commercial and that it representes "poor taste". Me and ulrica took part of a television show in a discussion about copyright, the border between art and design etc. eventually she made a glassseries in wich she appropriated and copied my appropriation of her. it was titled "thanks bjorn" and it consists of plastic recycle-bottles made of glass wich she painted with reference to my appropriation of her.
Current status:
She still sells the bottles but she has changed the title "thanks bjorn" and now launches them under the name "bottles".
